Chef Gordon Ramsay Ruptured his Right Achilles Tendon at Age 49

When it comes to celebrities and athletes, we are used to younger ones in their 20s and 30s rupturing their achilles tendons.  However, this week it was announced that famous UK chef Gordon Ramsay ruptured his right achilles tendon at the age of 49.  He decided to have surgery to treat his rupture.  Here is a photo from his Instagram account:

Shelby Erdahl Finishes 400m Hurdles Race Despite Rupturing her Left Achilles Tendon

Last weekend, Idaho State University athlete Shelby Erdahl ruptured her left achilles tendon during a race that was the senior’s final one of her college career. However, in an unbelievable turn of events, Ms. Erdahl decided to finish the race limping rather than just quit.

I have never seen something this before when it comes to athletes who rupture their achilles tendons. They always stop whatever they are doing and fall to the ground in dismay.

The whole story can be read here. An interview with Ms. Erdahl is in the below video:

Fluoroquinolones Antibiotics Quadruple Risk of Achilles Tendon Rupture

The US FDA has warned that a type of broad-spectrum antibiotics known as fluoroquinolones significantly raises the risk of achilles tendon ruptures. Any antibiotic name that ends in “floxacin” is best used as a last resort. It seems like such antibiotics quadruple the risk of achilles tendon ruptures. Much more in this article.

It has been known for many years that antibiotics increase the risk of achilles tendon ruptures, but the evidence from this new report is especially condemning.
