San Diego Chargers Third Player Ruptures Achilles Tendon this Year

The number of achilles tendon ruptures in the NFL is sure to reach a new high this year. It already hit a new high last year.  I wonder if something in our diet in general is causing such a problem?

This week, the San Diego Chargers inside linebacker Manti Te’o became the team’s third player to suffer a ruptured achilles tendon and we are just one-quarter through the season.  Most teams never have three players rupture their achilles tendon in one whole season.  Manti Te’o is only 25 years old.

Earlier in the season, San Diego Chargers’ running back Branden Oliver (age 25) and tight end Jeff Cumberland (age 29) both also ruptured their achilles tendons.

Two More NFL Players Rupture their Achilles Tendons During Preseason

As far as achilles tendon ruptures in the NFL go, this is now getting ridiculous since it is still only preseason.

Yet Another NFL Player Ruptures his Achilles Tendon

Late last year I wrote an important post on the increasing number of achilles tendon rupture injuries among NFL players.  This week yet another NFL player’s name was added to that ignominious list. Seahawks fullback Brandon Cottom tore his achilles tendon and will miss the 2016 season.  The surprising thing is that Cottom is only 23 years old.  Most athletes who rupture their achilles tendons are in their late 20s or older.
